Write about the last disagreement you had with a friend or family member — from their perspective.
To agree on someone’s point of view brings me to the fact that I am appreciative and understanding of my fellow human being’s right to express his/her opinion and to coexist with him/her in a civilized manner 🙂
Now, to disagree is a higher order. We, us intellectuals use the word : RESPECT with regards to appreciating another person’s perspective.
My disagreement with a friend started when i became respectful of her standpoint being an atheist. Growing up in a multicultural society and a pantheist myself, belief or unbelief in God and religion and topics related to that is not my cup of tea. But I am a good listener and considerate of who or what you like to believe in.
That made her think that it is okay to send emails with articles about atheism. The worst part was she used a different email to send it, up to the point of denying it. I wasn’t the only one who received those messages, some friends who also listens to her rants and raves and/or just tolerates the spam 🙂
Disagreement often goes with confrontation, she said she sent it because she knows that I am one of the persons who understands, who is broad-minded and nonjudgmental of things like that.
Yep! I am a friend, willing to listen to things she believes or doesn’t believe. In relationships, respect and sensitivity are present, observance of it just varies from one person to another. Respecting other persons beliefs, their point of views, their rights and their privacy are vital. The disagreement and the friendship ended up with valuable lessons not easily learned.
