The Camel, the price of oil and the Middle East

Long before Arabs discovered that most of their land is oil-rich, they have settled with the camels and the donkeys as their means of transportation in the desert.

But alas! The good Lord blessed them with barrels upon barrels of oil. It is black gold indeed! Presently, it is amazing how the price of oil in this side of the world amazes me. Some people say that water is more expensive in some parts of Saudi Arabia than gasoline, I never been there, I will update you when it happens. From camels and donkeys, Toyota, GMC,Ford….name it you have it the Middle East, from simple to fancy ones. One reason is the price of gasoline is so cheap here. Most can afford a car and the fuel to drive it.

My hubby and I travels frequently in Oman, whether for leisure or work. This is what we encountered as for the price of gasoline is concerned.20131208_124542 20131210_135559-1We encountered this camel during a pit stop in Duqm. It is sooo cute, anyways it is more of the price of gasoline that I stumbled upon and surprised to notice. We almost have a full tank for our Fortuner that day. It is a pretty long drive too, gotta go full tank. So, we have 69 liters in our tank and it only costs 8.3 Omani Rials which is approximately 21.5 USD. It is amazingly unreal sometimes but it is real :). Check out the price per liter, it is like buying a newspaper equal or less. Amazing!

Paul Patisserie in Muscat : Love the food! Love the bread!

Paul is located at Muscat Grand Mall in Muscat, Oman. My hubby and I love having brunch here at Paul. It has a very cozy ambiance, well lit and with an outdoor sitting. Aside from the charming ambiance, the food is really good and delectable.   He likes the food selection like I do, his favorite is Benedict Au Bacon. I like the Catalan.

The service is good too.Meals are reasonably priced and it’s worth your money.

Arya Cafe at Robinson’s Magnolia

My craving for Persian food was satisfied with my visit at Arya with my mom. We started with The Arya Dip Platter consisting of Hummus, Motabal, and Mirza Ghasemi. The dips were served in a single platter that was divided into four parts. It comes with a pita bread. The pita bread that came along isn’t enough, so we had another order. It’s really good!

We also ordered for a salad,Tzitziki, a combination of chopped cucumber, tomatoes, onions with a good amount of lemon juice. The labneh was also good.20140527_130207

For our main dish, my mom ordered the lamb chops and I ordered beef koobideh. It’s made of seasoned ground beef that’s formed into skewers and grilled. The meat is so tender and juicy plus the flavors of an authentic Persian spices. It is so delectable! It came with a salad and grilled tomatoes which our waiter peeled and mixed with spicy sauce. To prepare the grilled tomato sauce, the tomato is first peeled, then mashed and then seasoned with freshly ground pepper and topped with a spicy sauce and a yogurt garlic sauce.

Arya’s ambiance is cozy, it has a outside sitting for people who wants to sit outside and enjoy their shesha. It has a good value and excellent staff. It was a very pleasant dining experience.

The restaurant is located at Second Floor, Robinsons Magnolia, New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines

Making use of scrap yarns : Colorful Coaster and Cup Cozies

Some people crochet out of necessity, boredom and for the fun of it……i do all three 🙂 I did this colorful coaster out of necessity 🙂 I don’t like to see water dripping at the sides of my cold drink and it comes into contact with the table, making it look messy. It didn’t took me long to finish this one. Another thing is I was able to make use of scrap yarns too. 20140722_215723 For the pattern : please check this link and enjoy!
